Abstract

This chapter attempts to explore the multifaceted issue of electronic waste (e-waste), exploring its implications for privacy, economic development, and sustainable practices. As the lifespan of electronic devices shortens due to rapid technological advancements, the accumulation of e-waste presents significant challenges, including data breaches, environmental degradation, and economic disparities. The chapter comprehensively analyzes existing e-waste management practices and their inefficacy in keeping pace with the evolving tech landscape. It advocates for a paradigm shift in global e-waste laws and policies to embrace a circular economy, which would integrate durability, repairability, and recyclability principles into product design and end-of-life management.
