Abstract
As students return to school after a very interrupted couple of years, teachers and parents are considering how they can support students' mathematical learning. We have been considering the implications of the words we use to describe students' transitions from online learning to face-to-face learning in classrooms. After considering the matter, we are of the opinion that the expression 'catching up' may not be a helpful phrase to use with students.
