Abstract

This exhibition, which runs in parallel to the Annual Design Research Conference 2019, brings together leading design research through 23 individual contributions from around Australia and beyond. The exhibition is curated around three themes: REAL, which invites reflections and case studies which relate to the role of design research to critique, understand and address real world challenges; MATERIAL, which includes relating to or developed through the practice of construction, fabrication and making; and ETHEREAL which includes design research as methodology to present alternative futures, speculative design and digital realities which challenge the way we think about the world. The themes of the exhibition aim to both showcase the diverse range of mediums and methods currently employed with the design research fields, but also to encourage or expose overlaps and parallels within this diversity outside of discipline specific definitions.
