Abstract
The meeting on chemistry and the cities of tomorrow gives an opportunity to examine the impact of materials on the urban housing. Starting from the historical and sociological habits that weigh up over the design of novel options, emphasis is put on thermal insulation, a question where materials science plays a prominent role for the design of performant products. It is shown that the architectured materials are likely to provide original and efficient answers. Implication of these concepts in the energetic mix for the future is also discussed.
