Abstract
This chapter provides a brief overview of some international forensic medical and scientific organizations. There is an impressive number of organizations, many of which have a long history of publishing, hosting congresses, and contributing to the development of a field which underpins civil society and the rule of law.The services the associations deliver to their peers is largely on a volunteer basis. We are pleased to note the development of new bodies, such as the African Society of Forensic Medicine and the Asia Pacific Medico-Legal Agencies, focused on forensic medical and scientific capacity development for some of the world's poorest nations.
