Abstract
Pro-social modelling has been shown to be important in offender supervision. The practice of pro-social modelling and reinforcement has consistently been related to positive outcomes in criminal justice supervision. This chapter defines pro-social modelling and outlines some of the research relating to its impact and discusses how workers model pro-social values, how they identify and reinforce pro-social comments and actions from their clients, and how they challenge pro-criminal comments and actions. It provides examples of the practice of pro-social modelling and reinforcement. It then refers to the strengths of this approach and addresses potential criticisms.
