In summary, the major challenges reported by key experts in epilepsy research included understanding the causes of epilepsy, recognising the urgent need to change the approach in generating new drugs, the difficulty in diagnosing and treating comorbidities, the lack of funding and community attitudes, ensuring there is a next generation of leaders, engaging patients to take part in research, and breaking down the divide between community service organisations and the
epilepsy research community.
