Preventing illegal dumping on charitable recyclers

The purpose of this evaluation was to assess the effectiveness of different interventions aimed at reducing the magnitude of illegal dumping outside charity stores in Victoria. Five specific forms of intervention were evaluated: (i) signage outlining the personal impacts of dumping (being fined); (ii) signage outlining the social impacts of dumping; (iii) sensor lighting; (iv) CCTV cameras; and (v) fencing. Two specific trials were conducted: one among smaller stores (e.g., high street stores, small warehouses, large retail stores) and one among large warehouse stores.
