Liquid crystaline polymers (LCPs) involving a polysiloxane backbone and a novel vinylacetic acid unit in the spacer have been synthesised, These polymers all show dramatically lower clearing points (Tcl) than polymers with similar chain lengths but involving established polymethylene spacer groups.
