N2 - It is our pleasure to present you this Handbook of Metamaterials and Plasmonics, charting the tremendous progress that has occurred in this exciting area of research over the last years. What continues to fascinate me about the field above all is its interdisciplinary broadness — we have arrived at a stage where metamaterials make an impact on many arrays of science where control over waves is a prominent ingredient — be they electromagnetic, acoustic, elastic, or even seismic! In these four volumes, we hence attempt to set out the richness of the field, taking metamaterials in the widest sense as artificial media with sub-wavelength structure for control over wave propagation.
