It is our pleasure to present you this Handbook of Metamaterialsand Plasmonics, charting the tremendous progress that has occurredin this exciting area of research over the last years. What contin-ues to fascinate me about the field above all is its interdisciplinarybreadth — we have arrived at a stage where metamaterials makean impact on many arrays of science where control over waves is aprominent ingredient — be they electromagnetic, acoustic, elastic,or even seismic! In these four volumes, we hence attempt to set outthe richness of the field, taking metamaterials in the widest sense asartificial media with sub-wavelength structure for control over wavepropagation.
