Abstract
Power is a key concept within the sociology of sport. The fluctuating understandings of power have contributed to some of the key debates in the field and have shaped the field’s development. This entry details a common definition of power and illustrates how functionalists, interpretivists, critical theorists, Foucauldians and Deleuzeans have theorised power differently and the strengths and weaknesses of each approach.
