Abstract
The current dependence on coal-based power generation and the infrastructure developed around it makes it likely that coal will remain a critical energy source for the foreseeable future. There is, however, a great need to utilize this energy source more sustainably. The integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) process is an energy conversion system for concurrent power and chemical production. The significant body of research that has been conducted regarding the IGCC process and the well-outlined benefits of this potentially highly flexible polygeneration energy conversion system convey a promising technical and theoretical perspective. This Chapter investigates the polygeneration IGCC system with polyfeed and polyproduct flexibility.
