Abstract

The applications of photonic band gap (PBG) materials in antenna design were discussed. These PBG materials are used in planar reconfigurable antennas and phased arrays. The other applications include image rejection, gain improvement, suppression of surface wave, ripple suppression in radiation pattern and antenna bandwidth. The role of PBG materials in enhancing printed antenna performance was also discussed.
