Abstract
Plagiarism is a matter of serious concern in education worldwide in
general and in Vietnam in particular. This problematic issue has not been carefully
taught at any level of education in Vietnam. The article therefore focuses on the issue of plagiarism in English academic writing, discussing various classifications of plagiarism and proposing a synthesis which includes the forms of plagiarism committed in English academic writing. It is hoped that this synthesis will help educators and students better understand and identify types of plagiarism, raising awareness of the ways in which plagiarism can be avoided and thus improving the quality of academic writing in English.
