Abstract

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has overwhelmed many international health care systems, with a high number of patients having severe respiratory failure. The mainstay of treatment for these patients is invasive mechanical ventilation requiring pharmacological induction, followed by ongoing sedation and analgesia. In the setting of severe acute respiratory failure, neuromuscular blockade is often required.
