Abstract

PBG assisted aperture coupled patch antennas (ACPA) are investigated with different number of annular ring PBG grids. The bandwidth, gain and F/B radiation levels change with the grids. A prototype hole patterned PBG assisted ACPA is fabricated, tested and compared with a reference ACPA. Symmetric radiation patterns, lower cross polar level, no side lobe and lower power level near grazing angles for the PBG assisted ACPA are observed.
