Abstract

A gene delivery and expression system that is proposed for DNA delivery into mammalian cells is investigated. The system works based on properties of apatite crystals such as ability for preventing the growth of crystals, which is needed for high frequency DNA transfer across plasma membrane and fast dissolution rate for effective release of DNA during endosomal acidification. The method offers a higher level of gene expression than that obtained using other widely used transfecting agents. The method offers high level of efficiency, safety and simplicity.
