Abstract

Percutaneous biopsy is an essential part of staging pulmonary and extrathoracic tumors. Computed tomography guidance is the method of choice for guidance. Accuracy of 80% to 98% is achieved by the use of cutting needles and avoidance of necrotic areas of the tumor. Cytopathologist attendance improves outcome and minimizes the need for repeat procedures. Pleurocentesis is performed with ultrasound guidance.
