Abstract

This paper presents an overview of the 1994 Australian Pedestrian and Bicyclist Safety and Travel Workshop. Held in Melbourne in April 1994, the workshop was attended by approximately 75 individuals, with diverse professional backgrounds, from throughout Australia. Papers covered topics ranging from pedestrian and bicycle movement, pedestrian accidents and bicycle helmets to footpath cycling. The scope and content of the papers presented at the workshop are reviewed. The participants contributed to a series of structured discussion sessions over the three days of the workshop. The themes of these discussion sessions are identified in the paper and the issues raised in the discussions are summarised. The proceedings from the workshop will be published later this year.
