Abstract

This chapter analyses the corpora of ideas (the data) across and within the nine chapters published in Section B of this book. A quantitative frequency analysis of this corpus was conducted in the form of a word cloud to provide a visual overview of the text. This word cloud revealed the student at the centre of collaborative active learning. We then undertook a qualitative thematic analysis of the nine chapters to demonstrate a shared understanding of the process of collaborative active learning in our context. A conceptual framework was derived from the thematic analysis. Central to the Optimising Collaborative Active Learning in Tertiary Settings (OCALiTS) Framework is the strategies used and the activities created for collaborative active learning to be successful and have student learning. Further research is necessary to focus on the faculty as participants in CAL and could explore faculty identity as teachers of CAL.
