Abstract

This study investigates how online platforms are used as sites for learning by undergraduate students in computer and software engineering (CSE). The study combined different methods and data types to explore the resource infrastructure available to 73 CSE students as they used several online platforms to learn software development over a period of three months. Our findings reveal that students combined multiple platforms in different ways, providing access to a wide variety of resources, and across learning contexts that extend beyond the boundaries of the formal curriculum. The study contributes empirical evidence about learning with platform-based resources and suggests that future research should focus on how platforms can be considered as resources for learning in undergraduate education.
