Abstract
With the increasing penetration of renewable energy, sudden changes of renewable generation output and unbalance generation among areas introduce new challenges for frequency regulation. This paper aims to provide an attempt to coordinate multiple groups of aggregated air-conditionings for providing supplementary primary frequency regulation service. Based on the thermal modelling of air-conditioning, the aggregation of such demand can be controlled as a virtual energy storage system (VESS). For primary frequency regulation, the aggregators share the frequency deviation signals and curtail the active power according to the droop strategy while maintaining room temperatures and switching time. Case studies are conducted to validate the performance of the proposed primary frequency regulation strategy.
