Abstract
Nils Christie’s contribution to criminology and victimology has been profound.
This article traces the roots of contemporary concerns with critical and cultural
victimology to his work. Alongside this his insightful comments on public criminology also have some resonance with current victimological pre-occupations. It is evident from this analysis that without his voice some of the contemporary concerns of critically informed and engaged victimology would be absent, for which we owe him a huge debt.
