New vortex-matter size effect observed in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ

Abstract

The effect of greatly reduced sample size on the disorder-driven 3D-2D vortex transition in BSCCO was examined. Local magnetization measurements revealed that at low fixed temperatures, the second magnetization peak (SMP) disappears for samples smaller than a temperature-dependent critical length.
