Abstract

A series of promoters based on a transition metal ion (Co, Ni, Cu) and sodium aluminate, sodium silicate or magnesium acetate have been shown to be active for the liquefaction of wet Victorian brown coal in synthesis gas. Reaction mechanisms are discussed.
