Born in 1972 in Melbourne, Australia, Nicole Rinehart studied Psychology at Monash University, obtaining a BA(Hons) in 1994, a Master's in Clinical Psychology in 1997, and a PhD in Neuropsychology under the supervision of Professor John Bradshaw in 2000. Nicole's PhD and subsequent postdoctoral research, funded by the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council and Cure Autism Now (USA), has focused on the neurobehavioral dissociation of autism and Asperger's disorder. She is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Center for Developmental Psychiatry and Psychology, Monash University, and is in private practice as a Clinical Psychologist at Monash Medical Center. She is one of the coordinators of the clinical child psychology units in the Doctorate of Clinical Psychology at Monash University. Nicole is the recipient of several research awards, the most recent being the Australian Psychological Society Early Career Research Award in 2006. She currently holds a prestigious National Health and Medical Research Council award to study motor functioning in autism and Asperger's disorder. She has published 25 papers, predominantly first authored, and four co-authored book chapters.

N2 - Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), depression, Tourette's syndrome (TS), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), schizophrenia, and autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) are neurodevelopmental disorders thought to involve frontostriatal brain regions. This article outlines how each of these conditions is characterized in terms of gender ratios, prevalence rates, age of onset, and clinical presentation, as well as neuropsychological functioning and treatment. Also discussed are genetic factors and the different brain areas implicated from available neuroimaging data. © 2008
