Nanocellulose reinforced general and special purpose elastomers

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceeding › Chapter (Book) › Research › peer-review

Abstract

This chapter covers the key aspects of both general and special-purpose elastomers, such as elastomer types, their typical characteristics, and limitations. A comparison of properties and molecular structure by types of elastomers will be presented. It then moves to the various types of preparation techniques of elastomers reinforced with nanocellulose. The characterization of properties of nanocellulose-reinforced elastomers will be discussed with respect to morphology, filler-elastomer interaction, and mechanical performance. Finally, the chapter discusses applications, including the use of elastomeric materials in footwear, sensors, membranes and water purification.
