Abstract
Muscle injuries are common in the sporting population. Imaging plays a vital role in the detection and/or characterization of the injury pattern as well as assessing complications. More recently, research has shown that imaging can be used as a prognostic indicator for return to play and risk of recurrence. This chapter describes the imaging techniques and anatomical characteristics of normal muscle. A general overview of biomechanical principles of muscle injury is provided, followed by relevant imaging features of injuries to specific muscle groups.
