Abstract
We have developed a new mathematical model of single cell rabbit sinoatrial node pacemaker activity, employing Markov state kinetic descriptions of ionic currents. Parameters of the model have been adjusted to match experimental recordings of free running action potentials from the periphery of the node, recorded both in the absence and presence of E-4031 - a selective blocker of the rapid delayed rectifier K+ current (iK,r). Results from the model suggest that the effects of E-4031 on action potential waveshape can be reproduced by simply lowering the membrane conductance of iK,r.
