Micro‐volume extraction for differential‐pulse voltammetric determination of iron in biological materials

A method based on separation by gas‐stirred extraction and differential‐pulse voltammetric detection of Fe(III) (0.50–8.0 μg) as the N‐phenylbenzohydroxamic acid complex in an ethyl acetate/acetonitrile phase (approximately 300 μ1) with a newly designed microcell provides sufficient sensitivity for its determination in biological materials. In the extraction and oxygen removal steps, nitrogen gas is passed through the aqueous and organic phases with a glass capillary. The proposed technique has been successfully applied to bovine liver and control serum.
