Microplastic yield condition for a periodic stacking of hollow spheres

A method to derive a macroscopic yield criterion for the microplasticity of a porous metallic material was discussed. The method was applied to a model made of hollow spheres, stacked in a regular FCC packing and bonded by soldering necks. The bonds corresponded to high curvature radii which indicated the presence of higher stress field on the inner surface of the sphere. The analysis showed that due to strain localization in the weak points of the structure, the local yield corresponded to a small macroscopic strain.
