These drawings elaborate an alternative framework of ideology based on Indigenous culture and grounded on the relationship between culture and Land and posit a materialist ontology that suggests a way to resolve the opposition between the “real” and the “imaginary” as they are understood within an Althussian framework. The drawings argue the crucial premise that an Indigenous ideology is grounded upon the notion of “Country” (Land) and its inextricable relation to culture. This body of work addresses an articulation of
practice led research from an Indigenous perspective. Its innovation lies in its production and reconfiguration of drawing from an Indigenous positioning. It makes it distinct from other practice led research as there are no First Nation artists working in this manner world-wide. These works focus on Darug, Wiradjuri and Wurundjeri Country.
The works form part of PhD research titled: Immaterial Land and Indigenous Ideology: Refiguring Australian Art and Culture, which was submitted in early 2013. The works were also documented in Asian Art News by Christine Nicholls Volume 23. No. 4 July/August 2013. The earlier works as part of Forty Five Downstairs Gallery were selected to be part of the Victorian Indigenous Art Awards, in which won the highly commended in 2012.
In 2013 four drawings were exhibited in 'Melbourne Now', The National Gallery of Victoria’s first contemporary art exhibition that celebrated the latest art, architecture, design, performance and cultural practice from over 175 individual and group artists.
Eight works were acquired by private collectors and two works were acquired by the National Gallery of Victoria.
