Abstract

The purpose of the research presented in this paper was to investigate pore-water pressure and pore-air pressure in unsaturated soils under different rainfall intensities and boundary conditions. The effect of pore-air pressure on pore-water pressure as measured by tensiometer was examined using calibration test. Laboratory tests using a cylindrical soil box were conducted under different rainfall intensities and boundary conditions, and the behavior of pore-water pressure and pore-air pressure was assessed. It was found that pore-air pressure appeared to be influenced by the rainfall intensity and boundary conditions. © 2012 IEEE.
