Abstract

In Chapter 5, Oluremi Ayoko and Charmine Hartel describe research on the emotional displays observed during conflicts in culturally heterogeneous workgroups (CHWs). The emotional displays most frequently reported by the team members were verbal aggression, crying, resentment, anger, bitterness, and frustration. Robert Jones and Andrea Rittman, in Chapter 6, describe some of the positive emotions displayed in the workplace, including pleasure and excitement. Together, these studies vividly illustrate that workplaces are indeed places of emotion. Consequently, it is important as organizational scholars and practitioners to understand the function that emotional displays play in organizational life.
