Abstract

On January 28-30, 2009 the city of Melbourne in south-eastern Australia experienced a record- breaking heat-wave with three days above 43˚C and one night above 30˚C. Following the event, over 374 excess deaths and 714 hospitalisations were attributed to the heatwave.
