Abstract

Rose's (2023) article raises several critical points regarding the barriers to quality literacy education in Australian primary and secondary education. He also offers some guidance in terms of solutions. In this response, I would like to take up his key concerns by offering an alternative position on assessment and further suggestions for addressing current challenges to literacy teaching and learning.
