List of individuals with scar descriptions

    Abstract

    . Mich. inv. 3322
    Tebtunis (?), mid-first century CE

The papyrus presented here, perhaps part of the archive of Kronion son of Apion, is currently held at the University of Michigan. The text records the later part of a list of individuals, preserving only the list of their identifying scars and, in some instances, all or part of their age as well. Given his own work at Michigan, and his love for the quantifiable aspects of papyrology, I hope this text will be a fitting offering to Peter van Minnen as a token of gratitude – one drop of water in exchange for a sea – for all the support and advice he has unstintingly given since my earliest days as a graduate student. His erudition and prolific production (as a mentor, an editor, and a researcher) have been and still are an inspiration.
