An excess supply of fatty acids, beyond that required for energy needs, is a cause of insulin resistance in key regulatory tissues of glucose metabolism including the skeletal muscle and liver. Intracellular triacylglycerol accumulation is a marker of excess fatty acid supply to tissues, and it is now two decades since an association was recognised between intracellular triglyceride accumulation and insulin resistance.....
