Leopold Banchini, Two Works with Water

Research output: Contribution to specialist publicationArticleResearch

Abstract

Architecture often takes comfort in its distinction from construction. This plays out in several ways, one being a division of labour: the architect designs, the builder builds. While this separation might be neat and convenient, we easily find many architects who don’t just design, and many builders who don’t just build, and not just in special cases. In a subset of Leopold Banchini Architect’s work, he – and other architects he has worked with – are very involved in construction as self-building architects. Many, not all, of these works of Banchini’s are ‘temporary’; they have been uninstalled, unbuilt, or removed much sooner than his other, more ‘permanent’ ones.
