Abstract

This chapter presents an overview of how leisure activity and occupations fit within occupational therapy practice models and considers the critical importance of including leisure as part of human well‑being. Leisure is defined within the context of occupational therapy as well as distinctions made among various types of leisure. Considerations for collaboration with other professionals who also promote leisure participation are presented, along with assessment resources and several intervention approaches. Case examples that embed leisure occupation in practice portray different perspectives in facilitating leisure participation across the lifespan and
ability spectrum.
