Abstract

Our presentation discusses unlearning Western paradigms within arts education; instead we 'learn-to-learn-with-' Australian Indigenous knowledges to rethink and unlearn standardised curriculum. Michelle unlearns alongside her Drama pre-service teachers who partner with Drama Victoria and Indigenous Artist, Chrissyray Weetra, to develop a Teacher Resource: Teaching for Reconciliation. Whereas, Geraldine shows how pre-service teachers and children, partnered with Monash University Gallery to explore a culturally marked tree as the centre of their unlearning through the Tree School exhibition. Geraldine and Michelle together focus on their learning-to-listen to the words of Indigenous knowledge holders as a central focus to re-imagine how Indigenous perspectives through arts education can be made evident within the arts.
