Abstract

The aim of this study was to understand how business management students in
Malaysia learned in two academic fieldtrips, and the experience they brought along from the fieldtrips as they participated in other new units in classrooms. The study employed a longitudinal, qualitative approach using reflective journals and two focus group discussions. The findings revealed social influence, self-concept, voice, teamwork, learning, and learning beyond fieldtrips. To balance the cognitive and noncognitive benefits of learning, and to reap other benefits after the fieldtrips, the results suggested that learning beyond the classroom is an essential part of the business management curriculum.
