Abstract

Understanding the brain mechanisms underlying addiction to drugs and the creation of effective therapies against these diseases represent one of the largest and most difficult challenges of modern research. Part of the problem is due to the fact that drug addiction seems formed and supported by several entities, which are dependent upon various factors, including genetics, types of drugs taken and the individual patient response to the drug, as well as environmental influences. Despite the complexity of the problem of addiction, in the last 10 years, research has moved and bounds thanks to increased dialogue among experts from various disciplines. Therefore, it has embarked on a path that will lead the departments of dependencies, parents, teachers, educators, to be able to have and acquire new information, research and visions in this area, in order to introduce elements of innovation in a social and health system that needs to be updated with respect to the rapidly evolving phenomenon of drugs and addictions.
