Abstract
A framework for capturing and managing materials processing knowledge is introduced. An approach that tackles the entire process stream is developed and the optimum degree of codification so that the system can handle queries but remains manageable is also found. Knowledge mapping approach captures and visualizes materials processing knowledge and is applied successfully to materials processing operations. The knowledge map structures manufacturing knowledge at a generic level and contains condensed information about the evolution of product attributes throughout the process.
