Abstract
The realignment of a liquid crystalline (LC) side chain polymer in its liquid crystalline state, induced by a directing d.c. electric field, has been studied with the aid of dielectric relaxation spectroscopy and the time-dependent macroscopic director order parameter Sd(t) has been determined. The form of the response curves for different applied voltages is discussed in relation to calculations we have made for Sd(t) using the recent theory of A.F. Martins, P. Esnault and F. Volino.
