Abstract
Much attention has been focused on the Just-in-Time manufacturing philosophy by Western companies in recent years and it has now been accepted as a viable production system by practitioners and academics. This article presents the experiences of a group of companies involved in a JIT pilot demonstration project which was completed over a period of one year. Two follow-ups to this project were carried out to assess its success. The first was a telephone survey and the second was in-company interviews with JIT project leaders in the companies involved. The finding of these follow-ups are also reported in this article.
