Abstract

Recent trends in IT promise tangible improvements to the governance of managers and controllers. In particular, self-service evaluations, mobility and real-time data processing should be mentioned here. Based on three studies, the present volume examines in depth the possibilities of these IT trends. First, a survey of managers, controllers and IT employees of large German companies examined the use of trends and the significance of existing IT challenges. The implications for the management of the managers and the role of the controllers were recorded on the basis of interviews with corporate controlling directors, IT experts and managers. The results of a large-scale survey in the WHU controller panel also show the current and future use of IT trends as well as the numerous advantages and limitations of these trends. From this it can be deduced to what extent they will support corporate management in the future.
