Abstract
Discusses Islamic banking, its increase in prominence in the global financial system and its development in Malaysia. Gives a brief history of Islamic banking and outlines its aims and principles. Describes the development of Islamic banking in Malaysia and the key provisions of the Islamic Banking Act 1983, highlighting areas where legal problems can arise and suggesting ways in which they can be remedied.
