Abstract
The Inventory for Critical Managerial Soft Skills (ICMS; Radhakrishnan, C. V., 2022 [under supervision of Zakkariya, K. A.]) was developed as a psychometric tool for the assessment of the Critical Managerial Soft Skills (CMS) Model, which comprises 7 critical managerial soft skills which are necessary for an entry-level management graduate. This 37-item measure was designed to provide organizations with a ready-made tool to assess the critical soft skills of managerial candidates during recruitment or training. Items for the ICMS were derived through the theoretical validation of the conceptual CMS model, which was achieved by conducting a series of connected studies involving content analysis of institutional advertisements, detailed literature review, interviews with subject experts, and surveys of employers. Based on the finalized 7-factor CMS framework, item construction, reduction, and validation procedures were carried out to derive the final 37-item ICMS tool. Factor structure, reliability, and validity (content, face, construct, convergent, and discriminant) results were provided. Among limitations discussed, the author cautioned that the tool is limited to the measurement of only the 7 dimensions, which were derived as "critical" based on various stages of the work.
